CHICAGO, IL － On August 4, 2017, Illinois State Senator Martin A. Sandoval, Chairman of the Illinois Senate Transportation Committee and Vice Chairman of Energy and Public Utilities, was awarded with the "2017 Legislative Champion Award" by the Hispanic American Construction Industry Association (HACIA) for sponsoring the Railroad Supplier Diversity Act (SB 1267) in the 100th General Assembly.
“I challenge the City Council of Chicago, the County of Cook, and my colleagues in the county board to do what we have done in the Illinois Legislative,” said Senator Sandoval during the HACIA award reception. “The Latinos Caucus has done more in the last five years than anybody else in the State of Illinois for the latino community.”
The Railroad Supplier Diversity Act requires all Class I railroad companies to submit an annual supplier diversity report to the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) containing certain information concerning procurement goals and spending for female-owned, minority-owned, veteran-owned, and small business enterprises. Through the Act, each railroad company is also subject to report in the form and manner required by the Commission, and to hold an annual workshop—open to the public—on the state of supplier diversity.
